I sure hope not. It’s always been a “What’s going on in retirement” blog. And unfortunately, what’s been going on just now is very medically-focused.
But we still hope to hit the road in early 2026. Notice I’ve stopped writing that we’ll start traveling in January. It seems less likely to hit that goal now with the Crohn’s diagnosis and the wait times for initial diagnostic tests/imaging and setting a treatment plan. This acknowledgement hurts my heart because I definitely don’t want to be sitting around waiting for doctor’s appointments when we could be out west adventuring. But, it is what it is.
So, until I get past a few other medical items and/or until I get enough…what would I call it?…mental reserves or stability or curiosity or drive…to start up with some artwork or games, there are going to be more medical posts. Maybe down the road someone else diagnosed with PSC would find them helpful. If not, they’re still a representation of what’s taking up most of my mental space.
A few things that have been in the works:
- I now qualify for a whole litany of immunizations and I’ve proceeded to get all of them
- I’ve agreed to participate in a program at Mayo to help them gather biological specimens for patients with PSC. This will provide a way for researchers to continue studying the disease.
- I’ve registered with several organizations that compile lists of clinical studies. I don’t think I want to get into one now, but when I do…I know better how to go about it.
- I’m continuing to look for new recipes, trying 2-3 each week. Food restrictions are still hard, mostly the 2000mg salt limit, and every new meal that “works” feels like a big win.
- My husband & I had our gut microbiomes analyzed. Patients with PSC are known for having problems in this area and we wanted to compare. We just got the results back and this will be the topic of my next post.
