It really all comes down to expectations.
As a former northerner, I have been extremely pleased with my Florida winter RV life. Here we are halfway through January and so far there hasn’t even been a remote threat of snow. Lows in the 40°’s feel like a moderate, reasonable winter experience. Sure, you need a coat. But typically at some point in January I’m used to having a week-long stretch of sub-zero temperatures with wind chills in the vicinity of -15°.
Locals, however, are not too pleased. There’s a lot of complaining…which is partly just strangers commenting on the weather (like one does). But I can’t help but think that a little more warm clothing might change their minds.
Then there’s our son, who is coming to visit this week. He’s in college in the North and wanted to fly south for a bit to warm up. His intent was to spend some time on the beach, get a little bit of color. Turns out that the highs are going to be in the low 60°s most of the time he’s with us. (Cue sad trombone noises)
We went out to dinner last week and people were still dining outside. Of course the heaters were going, but try this in Minnesota in January! Not happening.
So if this is what passes for winter in Florida, sign me up. I’m sure at some point I’ll miss the snow, but not this first winter.
