Three Month Fulltime Update

Today, on December 6th, is our three month mark for living full time in our fifth wheel RV and traveling the US. We’ve moved from Madison, WI all the way down to Tampa, FL. We’re continuing to learn what works for us and the best ways to live this unusual lifestyle, but so far the experience has been amazing. I’m looking forward to everything we’ll see in 2025.

Things I’ve learned

1

The small living space hasn’t been an issue, both from the perspective of having the belongings we need and being constantly in each other’s presence. The other day we both spent a lovely day at “home” and weirdly, we barely interacted, which is sometimes what we introverts need.

2

I shouldn’t be afraid or even reluctant to take advantage of all of the systems in our RV. We were in a site without electric hookups and it was ~85° with humidity in the 90%s. I thought I’d tough it out vs. running the generator, and that was a mistake. Once we employed the generator it was a much more enjoyable stay.

3

We’ll have to find a balance as we move forward, but Rich & I seem to be liking different types of campground experiences. I prefer a national forest or state park that’s more rustic but may be far from services like a grocery. Thus far he has preferred the more urban experience we’ve had in Tampa, where it is easy to grab some B-Dubs on a football Saturday. Hard to blame him, but especially since I spend more quiet days at “home,” I don’t love the whole “camping in the suburbs”vibe.

4

I’ve been making good progress toward my food & fitness goals, but it is easy to let them slip. (See B-Dubs comment above!). With all of this extra time in retirement, I’m a little surprised how much focus and perseverance it takes to stick with the program.

As I’m putting together our rough plans for 2025, it is really sinking in how much there is to see and how even after the end of next year we will only have scratched the surface. Hopefully we’ll be traveling for a long time to come.
