For quite a while I’ve thought that colored pencils might be a good medium to explore, but I haven’t taken the time. Recently I finally got started properly exploring this new direction.
As I noted in a prior post, I’ve been lucky to sign up for several classes from Sandy Allnock. Turns out I’m great at buying classes, but not so good at taking them. A “Colored Pencils Jumpstart” class was one I had purchased, and last week I took the pre-class and the first lesson.
I needed to purchase some supplies, which is always a fun excursion. I had hoped to get a few more Caran d’Ache Luminance (I seem to only have 11…which is a weird number and not enough to start a proper class), but the store didn’t carry them. I ended up getting a 24 set of Primacolors, which were also recommended by Sandy.
I proceeded to swatch out all of the colors I had, including a smattering of watercolor pencils and some that are not artist-grade.
The difference was pretty apparent and overall I preferred the Luminance. They’re pretty pricey though, so I want to be sure I’m going to continue with the medium before I invest more.
And typical of me, I bought a little case to contain all the final supplies. (“Final” for now, anyway!)
