Why a 5th Wheel Trailer?

So many options. Hopefully we’ve chosen wisely.

Our dream of traveling full time during retirement took many years to become reality, and most of the early years were spent dreaming. Part of the journey we were taking in our mind’s eye was about which type of setup would work best for us. We considered a pretty wide range of options, from small fiberglass trailers all the way to Class As and we ended up picking a 33’ Fifth Wheel based on the following, which aren’t listed in any particular order.

Many RVs have one hallway down the middle and we thought we’d be forever stepping over the dogs. With two opposing slides, there is a little more space for them.

Separating our home from our motor means that if we have trouble with one, we aren’t necessarily having to tie up the other while repairs happen.

We’ve seen numerous traveling YouTubers (vanlife and otherwise) move from tiny to larger, then larger RVs for full time living. We tried to pick ours based on where these folks tended to end up after several years on the road.

At the end of the day, one of us wanted a more minimal setup than the other, but we opted for the larger trailer based on the idea that both of us needed to be genuinely comfortable in order for this to work. A more rugged experience should almost always be available by just stepping out the door.
