A beefy addition to our equipment will help ensure we’re within safety limits for towing.
As I noted on the post for our Shakedown Trip, our pin weight and payload were a little high for comfort with our 33ft 5th wheel on our Ford F350. Super duty trucks are not all that easy to find and thankfully my husband was able to locate one that was waiting to be shipped from the factory to a Milwaukee-area dealer. It doesn’t have all the bells & whistles we’d get if we were ordering one from scratch, but it is pretty darn close. Today we went & picked up up, trading in our prior truck.
She’s a real beauty and I feel very good about our weights and the safety of pulling the trailer with a much larger truck like this.
There will be downsides with fuel economy and fitting in parking spots, but we weren’t comfortable being over the F350s limits on the rear axle. So, even with the downsides it wasn’t much of a choice…unless we wanted to change RVs, which we briefly discussed…but that kind of adjustment wasn’t very seriously considered. We’ve been very happy with the RV so far and now we’ll be properly equipped to tow it.
